In February of 2024 volunteers at the Chester County Liberation Center submitted a resolution for the permanent and immediate ceasefire in Palestine to Coatesville City Council members and City Manager James Logan.
Nearly every two weeks since Monday March 11th community members have been attending Coatesville City Council meetings to give speeches on the history and current situation in Gaza, and to ask when the resolution would be put on the agenda for an official vote.
After months of controversy, on Tuesday May 28th, City Council voted in favor of putting the resolution on the agenda. This was a small but meaningful victory for the peace movement. As a result, the resolution was put on the agenda and voted on June 10th 2024.
After hearing from the public Council members regrettably voted down the resolution 6 to 1. Although we would have liked to see City Council vote on the right side of history here, the people’s movement in Chester County grew from the experience and is now even more ready to keep building the anti-war movement.
As the U.S. funding for genocide of Palestinians has not stopped despite Israel’s attack on Rafah, it is clear that Biden, despite his public rhetoric, doesn’t actually have a red line he won’t cross when it comes to killing Palestinians.
Now is the time to get involved! Now is the time to be Biden’s red line! Join us!
